Health and Wellness Consultation
What is it?
The undivided attention of a
physician devoted to your health and lifestyle problems.
Initial visits are usually about 1.5 hours. Follow-up
visits are an hour. Shorter visits can be arranged on an
as needed basis.
Why might you need it?
You want to see just one person who
has enough time and training to offer both counseling and
medication.
You need to change your diet and
increase your exercise because of the long-term problems
associated with High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, and Diabetes
but have not been able to follow through with recommended
guidelines.
You are having trouble managing
stress or a change in your life.
You are an adolescent or young adult
having problems in school or with life transitions such as
moving to college.
You are feeling depressed,
overwhelmed, and unable to cope.
You have been diagnosed with a
medical problem and need help to understand what this means and
how to handle it.
You are the parent of an unruly or
difficult child and you need some professional advice/guidance
on what to do.
You are a child in a difficult
situation and need advice or regular counseling and support.
You are not a child… but have a
problem or circumstances in which you would like regular
professional counseling and support.
You are a nervous/anxious person but
have not had success with recommended relaxation, deep-breathing
exercises.
You have seen a counselor to deal
with your problems, but now want to consider the option of
medication.
You need a professional to help you
with problem-solving in a specific area of your life.
You have trouble in a relationship
and want to try to improve the situation.
You have not been able to stop
smoking, despite your family doctor’s warnings.
How does it work?
We set up an appointment. The
consultation is in my office if you are local (but maybe over
the phone if you are out of the area). The first
consultation you give me a complete detailed history of your
problem and I give my recommendations. Together we will
develop milestones which will we lead us to our agreed upon
ultimate goal. During subsequent appointments we see how
things are progressing and what adjustments need to be made to
the original plan. When goals are completed we terminate
sessions.
Consultation lengths and frequency
can be modified and scheduled as desired. Email is used
for brief updates between appointments. Some people need
only a month or two to reach their goal. Others need
longer, depending on the situation and complications.
How much does it cost?
I bill $100/hour due at the time of the
appointment. I do have some limited space for pro-bono and
reduced fee work. I do not accept insurance, but am
willing to fill out any insurance paperwork you might need so
that you may be reimbursed by your insurance company.
